Top spot for Shirland at Dobcross

It was a successful evening out for Shirland Welfare Band at the annual Whit Friday Marches – The Greatest Free Show on Earth – which took place on the 24th May.

The band made their annual trip to Saddleworth and manage to compete in a total of 6 contests, performing TJ Powells famous march The Contestor.

Faced with some stiff competition the band managed to secure the prize for the best second section band at the picturesque village of Dobcross and the runner up spot at Lees & Springhead before finishing up in traditional style with their final performance at Delph followed by fish and chips.

Lots of photos of the band at all of the villages we visited can be found on our facebook site.
