Shirland top the Midlands Table

At the Midlands area regional contest Shirland put in a fabulous performance of this years test piece to claim second prize.

Although we narrowly missed out on the top spot we still qualified for the National finals in September and, with aggregate scoring, topped the midlands grading table by 4 clear points to earn promotion to the first section in 2026.

A huge amount of effort had been put in to preparing for the contest by both the band and our MD Lynden Cooper but the hard work was worth it as we delivered a near flawless performance of Oliver Waespi’s work in three movements ‘Friendly Takeover’

The achievement is more impressive when you consider that twelve of our players are under the age of twenty two and two or three would claim they are long overdue for retirement.

After a serious amount of post result partying the hard work starts all over again and, in addition to our usual hectic Summer schedule, we will be embarking on a number of fundraising activities to help pay for the coaches and accommodation that will be required to allow us to compete at the national finals.

If anyone would like to contribute to our funding please get in touch.
