Narrow miss for Shirland at Regional Championships

It was a narrow miss for Shirland Welfare Band at the 2024 Regional Brass Band Championships second section held at Corby on Saturday March 2.

With an excellent rendition of this years set test piece Tryptych, by legendary composer for brass band Philip Sparke, the band were awarded 4th place out of the large, very competitive field of fourteen bands. Sadly they were denied a trip down to Cheltenham for the National finals later in the year, with only the first three bands at Corby qualifying.

To add insult to injury, due to a statistical quirk in the results, the band also narrowly missed out on being promoted to the first section despite ending up second in the grading table but level on points with Audley Brass who clinched the promotion slot.

Our congratulations go to Audley and as always its hopefully onwards and upwards for Shirland over the year ahead.
